As an absolute priority for Wigan Council, proposals for eight new, three bedroomed townhouses were approved on the former brownfield site, in order to revive the Pier’s past with a vibrant urban quarter.
The realisation of Wigan Council’s vision for this regeneration was dependant on being outstanding in place-making, environmental performance and design.
A modular solution that could make this challenging project stack within a small area, next to a busy main road and on the side of a canal.
We leveraged the best minds in construction for innovative, out the box thinking to unlock the potential of this site.
The new homes were handed over within six months of the contract being awarded which included all site remediation works next to the historic cancel, with manufacturing and installation taking just eight weeks.
8 low-carbon homes
Modular town houses
Appointed principal contractor to deliver a full turnkey package to carry out groundworks, design, engineering, manufacture and installation of a volumetric modular solution for the new smartly designed townhouses.
Created specifically for modern living and constructed with low carbon in mind, the brief was to produce homes fit for the future – exceptionally energy efficient and built to exacting quality standards.
Achieving air permeability 4.1 m³/h.m² and excellent U-Values will reduce heating requirements and carbon emissions. These airtight structures will reduce heat loss, cutting fuel bills for families for the lifetime of the homes.
This exceptional project recently awarded Best Development for Market Sale at the Northern Housing Awards 2021 – demonstrates exactly what can be achieved using an offsite approach.
